The Phantom Tollbooth

Ok, so I have to start with one of my favorite kids books of all time, The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster with illustrations by Jules Feiffer. I have read this book several times. Each time, I have gotten more from it than the last.  I can't remember the first time that I read this book, but I think it was somewhere between the ages 8 and 10.  I loved reading as a kid and I still do!
The Phantom Tollbooth in content is safe for all ages of kids.  It's not violent or racy and there's nothing inappropriate in it.  The illustrations are amazing.  It's suggested for ages 8 and up, but a young advanced reader can easily handle it.  I highly recommend it for bedtime for younger children.  As an adult, you will get something entirely different from it.  This is a book that keeps on giving as you go through life.
This book is perfect for that young boy in your life who you just don't know what book to get for.  The main character is a boy named Milo who is bored and not quite sure what to do.  He is undecided about nearly everything and then all of the sudden a package appears in his room.  Inside is a tollbooth good for one trip.  Milo sets it up, gets into a toy car and drives of heading for Dictionopolis.  Milo's journey is filled with fantastic characters such as Tock and the Humbug.  Milo, prior to his journey, thought he didn't have time for anything and he find he has plenty of time on his journey. My two favorite characters are Rhyme and Reason.  Milo's adventures are unforgettable and the cast of characters he meets will leave kids laughing and wanting to know more!  I cannot recommend this book more highly.

Introduction

Hi!
My name is Katie K and this is my first blog.  It was suggested to me, this Christmas dinner, that I start a blog about my kids book recommendations as well as candy!  Some background on me, I have run a total of three teen departments and three kids departments at both Borders & Barnes & Noble.  (I want to mention that one department was co-run with another awesome Katie!)  I have a great love of children's books from board books on up to chapter books.  I love reading them and I love talking about them!
In this day and age when everything is happening more and more online, it was pointed out to me that it's harder for people to know what books to buy their children or the children of their friends or family.  I want to start this blog as a way for people to get ideas and the truth about the books your kids may want to read.  There are some people out there who want to just make the sale and it's not important to them what they put in your kid's hands.  I'm not that kind of person and I wasn't when I worked at the book stores.  You'll get my honest opinion and a good review.  I hope to grow this to the point where I can actually even further grow my knowledge of children's books.
Currently, I work in a giant candy store and I love it!  I will also post about my favorite candies and some of the rarer ones out there.  Yes, I am shamelessly self-promoting where I work, but it should be fun as well!
Feel free to respond and contact me with any questions!  Most of all, enjoy this blog.  Please remember, I am not a professional critic.  I am simply a lover of children's books who wants to share her knowledge to help others.  Thanks!
